Squire of Nantglyn is the biography of Colonel Thomas Alured Wynne Edwards of Plas Nantglyn, Denbighshire. Heir to a small agricultural estate, Thomas Alured spent much of his early adult life as an agricultural engineer before inheriting the family estate in the late nineteenth century. He played a prominent role in local politics and was an officer in the Territorial Army at the outbreak of the First World War. Griffiths was born in Nantglyn, near Denbigh, and educated at the local
county school; the University College of North Wales, Bangor (where he
read history); and the University of Leeds. The posts he held included
those of history master at Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, Bethesda, head of the
history departmanet at Cartrefle College of Education and head of the
School of Humanities and Business Studies at the North East Wales
Institute of Higher Education. Eric Griffiths was the author of the
much acclaimed Philip Yorke (1743–1804) Squire of Erthig, also published by Bridge Books.
